Story-Driven Writing Helps Shelter Animals Find Homes
This sweet senior boy is looking for a second chance at Cottonwood Heights Police Department.
It’s clear life hasn’t been easy for him. He appears to be a senior and has old scars covering much of his body, along with significant wounds that have healed over time. He’s also missing his front teeth. Whatever his past looked like, it’s obvious he’s endured more than any dog should.
What amazes us most is that despite everything, he remains incredibly loving. He adores people, seeks out affection, and just wants to be close to someone who will show him kindness. He did great during his dog test and showed little interest in cats.
This gentle soul deserves a soft bed, a safe place to rest, and a family who will remind him that the world can still be a good place. After everything he’s been through, we’d love nothing more than to see him spend his golden years surrounded by love.

Sif at Herriman City Animal Services was all ready for his meet-and-greet this morning. When his potential adopters didn’t arrive right away, he waited patiently, hopeful that they were still coming. But as the minutes passed, it became clear they weren’t. Sif eventually had to head back to his kennel, still waiting for someone to choose him.
Sif is a stunning 4-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix weighing about 70 pounds. With one icy blue eye, one warm brown eye, and a calm, gentle presence, he’s the kind of dog who makes an impression without even trying.
Sif can be a little reserved when you first meet him, but he’s friendly, affectionate, and enjoys spending time with his people. He has previously lived with other dogs and done well, has been good with children, and has remained non-reactive around cats at the shelter.
Sif is also a smart guy who already knows sit, shake, and down—especially when treats are involved. He’s incredibly food motivated and seems to genuinely enjoy learning and interacting with people.
What Sif wants most is a family to call his own—a place where he can go on walks, enjoy a cozy bed, and finally leave shelter life behind.

Poor Dallas has had plenty of people come to meet him after seeing him on social media, but time after time, they walk away because of his size.
Dallas is a big boy—around 90 pounds—but he has no idea he’s considered “too much dog.” He’s just doing his best to be loved.
He’s now been at West Jordan Animal Services for over three weeks. In fact, he’s developed happy tail from wagging so hard every time someone walks past his kennel, hoping they’ll stop for him.
At 4 years old, Dallas is basically a giant, blocky pitopotamus whose greatest passions in life are snacks, zoomies, and being involved in absolutely everything you do. He previously lived with another dog and did great, and he’d probably love a playful canine buddy to wrestle with, nap beside, and commit minor acts of chaos alongside. He also doesn’t seem to mind cats at the shelter.
Please don’t let his size be the reason he spends another day in a kennel. Dallas has so much love to give, and he’s waiting for someone to see past the number on the scale and into the incredible dog underneath.

Meet Flint! This handsome boy recently made his way to our shelter in hopes of finally finding the loving home he deserves.
This sweet 3-year-old Spaniel mix weighs around 38 pounds and has such a soft, gentle presence about him. He’s very dog friendly and seems to find a lot of comfort and confidence around other dogs. He was also respectful and calm around the shelter cats.
Flint can be a little shy when first meeting new people, but it’s obvious he wants so badly to trust and connect. His tail starts wagging, he inches a little closer, and with just a few minutes of patience and kindness, he completely melts into affection and pets. Watching him warm up is incredibly sweet.
